FIRST… Thank you for this great theme.

Next, sorry to say Confused I am totally confused about how to get anything to appear on the home page… This seems like a great theme and will work perfect for what I am doing, except even though I make "Featured Catagories" and add posts, nothing shows up on the home page, except to the right in a box that reads "recent posts".

How do those Home Page Featured pieces get on to the front page? Where do the pictures come from and the text?

How do I make my stuff show up on the home page instead of the default stuff?

There are a number of fixes applied in the most recent version of the theme. If anyone is still using a version earlier than 1.5.9 and having problems it is recommended that you update your copy of the theme to the latest version which you can download from the downloads page. If you continue to have problems after the update please feel free to report your problems in order to be assisted with fixing them.

Natasha,

I would like to use the feature that you mention below, but for the life of me I can't figure out what you did. (Title, Post, Excerpt, Image, Category.)

Can you explain, in detail, what you did for this Title, Post, Excerpt, Image, Category? Did you manipulate the PHP file codes? I would appreciate your help, the site I am working on is not displaying the proper photo thumbnail.

Regards,

-Stacy

I've made a half dozen test posts this morning, trying them with an excerpt, without an excerpt, inserting images from the media library, adding new images, and I can't find rhyme or reason why some posts show the image and some posts show the noimage.gif instead. http://www.projectmanes.com

I'm going to respond to myself here. I've done five new tests, one in each of the five featured categories, and gotten them all to work by adding each item in the same order: Title, Post, Excerpt, Image, Category. If I follow that selection process, the images show up on the index page. Not sure why that works when doing things in other orders didn't, but I'll take it as a solution.

After more experimentation, it seems I can only get imags I load from my computer to show. Not ones in the library. This could be related to my server rather than the theme, so I'll just leave it there until I can get my tech to look into it.

Hi NatashaB, I'm sorry I took a while to respond and left you having to respond to yourself. Thanks for posting your findings. It's certainly odd indeed. I will see if I can find any reason why this is happening. I believe at least a couple of other people have made a similar complaint.

Markwyoung, what version of wordpress are you using? There was a v2.8 version of wordpress released that had a problem with category drop down lists. WordPress did fix that bug in 2.8.1 I believe. Are you using at least 2.8.1?

The featured sections on the homepage work as follows:

Featured Category #1

The first featured category block displays posts from [1] category in 3 different positions.

The most recent post in featured section #1 is the post with just the post title underneath the picture. The second post is the one that shows directly under the title with the smaller left floating picture. Then follows the next 5 post headlines.

Featured Category #2

In the second featured section, located to the right of the first featured section on the same row an excerpt with thumbnails is shown for the 3 most recent posts in which ever category you setup as your second featured category.

If you don't have images uploaded with the posts a default "no image" graphic is displayed.

The space is set to hide overflow. In the default package the title and excerpt length are set to fit according to the default font. What that means is that depending on the font you use, if you decide to use a different font, you might have to go into includes/featured2.php and adjust the  nuumber of characters if you have a situation where text is being cut off in an obvious way.

Featured Category #3 | Featured Category #4

Featured category number 3 and featured category number 4 are shown in the same column in the second row of content. Featured Category #3 shows [1] excerpt from the category you select with a picture cropped to 280×125 pixels. A default "no image" graphic is shown if there's no picture with the post.

Featured Category #4, shows [3] excerpts from a selected category with left floating thumbnail images cropped to 75X75 pixels.

Overflow is set to hidden in Featured Category #4. Like Featured Category #2, if you have a situation where overflowing text is still partially visible you will need to go into includes/featured4.php and adjust the number of characters for either the the title, the excerpt or both.

If you stay with the default font that comes with the theme you should not have any problem with overflow still being partially visible, or you could go into style.css and set the overflow to auto; but that is not recommended for reasons of aesthetics.

Featured Category #5

The space for featured category #5 will display an excerpt in a fashion similar to Featured Category #3 along with headlines of the next 10 most recent posts. Overflow for this division is also set to hide so if you're having trouble with partially visible text you could go into includes/featured5.php and change the number of posts where you see "showposts=11″.
