Up to version 18.104.22.168 there are 3 available layout styles for magazine mode. With the release of version 22.214.171.124 there will be 4 layout styles for magazine mode. Each style will come with the option to use static or widgets as the magazine layout mode choice.
Layout 1 uses 1 sidebar that can be moved right or left of the content area. You can choose to use one or the other ofthe 2 available sidebars. The content area is laid out in 3 tiers. The top tier has 3 left-floating sections that will each show excerpts from Featured Category 1, Featured Category 2 and Featured Category 3. (Note: In versions before 126.96.36.199 The middle column of the top tier shows Featured Category 3 and the right column shows Featured Category 2) Starting with 188.8.131.52 Featured Category 2 excerpts show in the middle column and Featured Category 3 excerpts show in the right column.
The middle tier has 3 rows for featured content from Featured Category 4, Featured Category 5 and Featured Category 6; and the bottom tier has two rows divided into two left-floating sections for featured content from featured categories 7,8,9 and 10.
Layout 2 also uses 1 sidebar that can be moved right or left of the content area. You can choose to use one or the other of the 2 available sidebars. The content area for layout 2 is laid out in 3 tiers. The top tier has 2 left-floating sections. The left section will show excerpts from Featured Category 1 and the right section will show excerpts from Featured Category 2. The middle tier has 2 columns. The left column of the middle tier contains 3 rows for content from Featured Category 4, Featured Category 5 and Featured Category 6 respectively, while the right column for tier 2 will show excerpts from Featured category 3. The bottom tier has 4 rows to show excerpts from each of Featured categories 7,8,9 and 10 in that order.
Layout 3 uses both available sidebars. The sidebars can shift position, but neither sidebar can be hidden when using Layout 3. If you only want 1 sidebar you should use either layout 1 or layout 2. Layout 3 has four tiers. The top tier is has two left-floating sections. The right section shows excerpts from Featured Category 1 and the left section shows categories from Featured Category 2. The second tier shows excerpts from Featured Category 3. The third tier has 3 rows. Row 1 shows excerpts from Featured Category 4, row 2 shows excerpts from Featured Category 5 and row 3 shows excerpts from Featured Category 6. The last tier has4 rows. Row 1 shows excerpts from Featured Category 7, row 2 shows excerpts from Featured Category 8 and row 3 shows excerpts from Featured Category 9 and row 4 shows excerpts from Featured Category 10
Layout 4 uses both sidebars. In layout 4 the sidebars are not movable. Layout 4 is divided into 2 tiers. Tier one contains 3 left-floating sections that will show excerpts based on tags. If you do not provide tags the sections will show excerpts from the associated featured category. The left section connects to Featured Category 1, the middle section connects to Featured Category 2 and the right section connects to Featured Category 3. If there are no tags, and also no category is selected nothing will show in the space.
Tier 2 is divided into 3 columns. Column 1 is the left sidebar, column 2 is divided into 7 rows. Each row will show excerpts based on tags if tags are supplied. If no tag is found for a row that row will show content from the associated featured category if a category has been selected. Otherwise it will show nothing. Row 1 of column 2 connects to Featured Category 4, Row 2 of column 2 connects to Featured Category 5, Row 3 connects to Featured Category 6, Row 4 connects to Featured Category 7, Row 5 connects to Featured Category 8, Row 6 connects to Featured Category 9, and Row 7 connects to Featured Category 10 . Column 3 is the right sidebar.
Sidebars in Layout4 cannot be moved from position to position, neither can they be hidden.
Setting tags for Layout 4
Tags are set by going to Producer Standard Options->Featured Category 1 Settings->Tags for layout 4, Producer Standard Options->Featured Category 2 Settings->Tags for layout 4, Producer Standard Options->Featured Category3 Settings->Tags for layout 4 etc.
When using tags for your Layout 4 sections you also need to provide a header title for the section. If no title is provided the tag will be used. You supply header titles under Producer Standard Options->Featured Category1 Settings->H2 Title for layout 1, Producer Standard Options->Featured Category2 Settings->H2 Title for layout 2, Producer Standard Options->Featured Category3 Settings->H2 Title for layout 3 etc.
Layout 4 Widgets Mode
In widgets mode Layout 4 does not use tags. It will show content from the associated featured category and the layout for each featured section will adhere to the styles used in layouts 1,2 and 3.
As explained in Producer Magazine layout mode – static, when using Producer in Magazine mode, you have an option under Producer Standard Options->General Settings that allows you to choose the magazine layout mode. The magazine layout mode refers to the choice between using the layout as it comes packaged or moving categories around to your liking.
In static mode you can’t move things around. In widgets mode you can put any category into any column by using Widgets. First put the theme in widgets mode, then go to your Dashboard–>Appearance->Widgets and drag any of the widgets Featured Category 1, Featured Category 2, Featured Category 3, Featured Category 4, Featured Category 5, Featured Category 6, Featured Category 7, Featured Category 8, Featured Category 9, Featured Category 10 to any of Home Column One, Home Column Two, Home Column Three, Home Column Four, Home Column Five, Home Column Six, Home Column Seven, Home Column Eight, Home Column Nine, Home Column Ten.
You can also drag anything else you so desire into the Home Column spaces.
Under Producer Standard Options->General Settings you have the setting “Magazine layout mode” with options static and widgets. Static means that the content that will be displayed in columns for the layout you selected under Producer Standard Options->General Settings->Magazine layout will be the post excerpts that get pulled from the specific category associated with that columns. In other words, whereas in widgets mode you can display posts from Featured Category 7 in any column you desire by dragging the widget for that category to a any of the Home Column widget spaces, in static mode, posts from Featured Category 7 can only appear where Featured Category 7 is coded in the layout.
If you have purchased a copy of the CSS Styling Tool for Producer and you plan to upgrade to Producer version 2.1.9, you should be aware that versions of the CSS Styling Tool earlier than 2.1.9 will not work with Producer 2.1.9. You were sent an email with Producer 2.1.9 and the compatible styling tool. In case you did not receive it, you can read the contents below. If you did not receive the styling tool please use the contact form to request it and include your purchase email or transaction ID.
Content of email you should have received:
Producer has been updated to version 2.1.9. Previous versions of the CSS Styling Tool will not work with version 2.1.9 of Producer. The 2.1.9 version of the CSS styling tool will not work with versions of Producer that are below 2.1.9. What this means: if you upgrade to Producer 2.1.9 you must also upgrade to the styling tool for version 2.1.9. If you do not upgrade to version 2.1.9 of Producer you should not use the styling tool for version 2.1.9.
Version 2.1.9 additions and fixes
When you first upgrade to version 2.1.9 your current standard options and CSS Styling tool options will seem to have been reset. To restore them, go to the options page for both standard options and css styling tool options and hit update.
Please be advised that while the styling tool has been configured to import your current settings to the new format it is possible for the import to fail. If you’ve done extensive work with the tool that you cannot afford to have to do over, it is strongly advised that you backup your WP database and your currently installed version of Producer before you attempt the upgrade. This way if the styling tool fails to import your current settings you can re back to the version you were using before the upgrade attempt.
I must stress again that if you have made extensive use of the CSS Styling Tool to modify the appearance of your site, backup your database and file before you update to version 2.1.9. Your settings should get transferred to the new format but there is every possibility they might not import at all or might get only partially imported.
