Here are some ribbons we designed following the tutorial Ribbon Image Design – Photoshop Graphic Design Tutorial 5.

The tutorial was fairly easy to follow if you prefer to try to design your own and want to start with something simple. We designed the ribbons for use with the featured showcase slider used in the theme Showcase Blue.

The dowload package includes a copy of the ribbon in 6 colors along with the PSD file. You can modify the PSD file to suit your needs and create additional colors.

If you’ve been having problems with updating your theme options starting with Producer 2.1.9 up to 2.1.9.5 you should update your copy of Producer to 2.1.9.6. It was previously reported that the problem was fixed in 2.1.9.5, however that report was incorrect. The problem was misdiagnosed and assumed fixed based on the faulty diagnosis.

Producer 2.1.9.6 can be download from the downloads page. It is not yet available on the wordpress.org website.

Download Producer 2.1.9.6

Up to version 2.1.9.5 there are 3 available layout styles for magazine mode. With the release of version 2.1.9.6 there will be 4 layout styles for magazine mode. Each style will come with the option to use static or widgets as the magazine layout mode choice.

Layout 1

Layout 1 uses 1 sidebar that can be moved right or left of the content area. You can choose to use one or the other ofthe 2 available sidebars. The content area is laid out in 3 tiers. The top tier has 3 left-floating sections that will each show excerpts from Featured Category 1, Featured Category 2 and Featured Category 3. (Note: In versions before 2.1.9.6 The middle column of the top tier shows Featured Category 3 and the right column shows Featured Category 2) Starting with 2.1.9.6 Featured Category 2 excerpts show in the middle column and Featured Category 3 excerpts show in the right column.

The middle tier has 3 rows for featured content from Featured Category 4, Featured Category 5 and Featured Category 6; and the bottom tier has two rows divided into two left-floating sections for featured content from featured categories 7,8,9 and 10.

The second tier shows excerpts from Featured Category 3. The third tier has 3 rows. Layout 4 uses both sidebars. In layout 4 the sidebars are not movable. Layout 4 is divided into 2 tiers. Tier one contains 3 left-floating sections that will show excerpts based on tags.  If you do not provide tags the sections will show excerpts from the associated featured category.  The left section connects to Featured Category 1, the middle section connects to Featured Category 2 and the right section connects to Featured Category 3.  If there are no tags, and also no category is selected nothing will show in the space.

Tier 2 is divided into 3 columns. Column  1 is the left sidebar, column 2 is divided into 7 rows. Each row will show excerpts based on tags if tags are supplied. If no tag is found for a row that row will show content from the associated featured category if a category has been selected. Otherwise it will show nothing. Row 1 of column 2 connects to Featured Category 4,  Row 2 of column 2 connects to Featured Category 5,  Row 3 connects to Featured Category 6, Row 4 connects to Featured Category 7, Row 5 connects to Featured Category 8, Row 6 connects to Featured Category 9, and Row 7 connects to Featured Category 10 . Column 3 is the right sidebar.

Sidebars in Layout4 cannot be moved from position to position, neither can they be hidden.

Setting tags for Layout 4

Tags are set by going to Producer Standard Options->Featured Category 1 Settings->Tags for layout 4,  Producer Standard Options->Featured Category 2 Settings->Tags for layout 4, Producer Standard Options->Featured Category3 Settings->Tags for layout 4 etc.

When using tags for your Layout 4 sections you also need to provide a header title for the section. If no title is provided the tag will be used. You supply header titles under Producer Standard Options->Featured Category1 Settings->H2 Title for layout 1, Producer Standard Options->Featured Category2 Settings->H2 Title for layout 2, Producer Standard Options->Featured Category3 Settings->H2 Title for layout 3 etc.

Layout 4 Widgets Mode

In widgets mode Layout 4 does not use tags. It will show content from the associated featured category and the layout for each featured section will adhere to the styles used in layouts 1,2 and 3.

As explained in Producer Magazine layout mode – static, when using Producer in Magazine mode, you have an option under Producer Standard Options->General Settings that allows you to choose the magazine layout mode. The magazine layout mode refers to the choice between using the layout as it comes packaged or moving categories around to your liking.

In static mode you can’t move things around. In widgets mode you can put any category into any column by using Widgets. First put the theme in widgets mode, then  go to your Dashboard–>Appearance->Widgets and drag any of the widgets Featured Category 1, Featured Category 2, Featured Category 3, Featured Category 4, Featured Category 5, Featured Category 6, Featured Category 7, Featured Category 8, Featured Category 9, Featured Category 10 to any of Home Column One, Home Column Two, Home Column Three, Home Column Four, Home Column Five, Home Column Six, Home Column Seven, Home Column Eight, Home Column Nine, Home Column Ten.

You can also drag anything else you so desire into the Home Column spaces.

Under Producer Standard Options->General Settings you have the setting “Magazine layout mode” with options static and widgets.  Static means that the content that will be displayed in columns for the layout you selected under  Producer Standard Options->General Settings->Magazine layout will be the post excerpts that get pulled from the specific category associated with that columns. In other words, whereas in widgets mode you can display posts from Featured Category 7 in any column you desire by dragging the widget for that category to a any of the Home Column widget spaces, in static mode, posts from Featured Category 7 can only appear where Featured Category 7 is coded in the layout.
