To replace the blog name with a header graphic in Producer, upload your header image to the media library, copy the URL and past the copied URL into the Site logo box in Producer Options. In steps:

  1. Login to your dashboard
  2. Click the Media menu option
  3. Click the “Add New” button
  4. Upload the picture
  5. Copy the File URL
  6. Click the Appearance menu option
  7. Click Producer Standard Options
  8. Scroll to Site Logo
  9. Paste the file URL in the site logo text box
  10. Click the Update Options button

The maximum width for your header graphic is 990 pixels. The height can be whatever you want. Here are two header examples starting with the default

Header using a full 990 pixels wide image

Your choice of header graphic can enhance the overall appearance of your site or take away from it depending on how you use it. If you’re going to use an image in the header consider how it will look if it only stretches 1/4 of the way across, 1/2 the way across or 3/4ths the way across. Usually an image that’s less than 990 pixels wide will only look attractive if it blends with the header background color.

Using Producer and having a problem with the tagline showing up twice in the header? Download block_logo_slogan.zip, unzip to extract the file block_logo_slogan.php. Upload block_logo_slogan.php to your Producer theme folder in wp-content/themes/producer/includes/blocks. That should fix the problem. If your Producer folder is named “Producer” instead of “producer” then you will be uploading to wp-content/themes/Producer/includes/blocks.

Hyenas fighting

In this business you can’t afford to be too sensitive. When you are putting yourself out there some things come with the territory. Whatever the product that you’ve put out–a blog, a book, software, a CD–if there’s a way for people to rate it, or comment about it, you should be prepared for those people who derive pleasure from trying to hurt the feelings of others. In a perfect world all people abide by the “if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all” principle; but this is not a perfect world. In this world, people who don’t have anything nice to say usually want the world to know the not so nice things they think and feel, and given the opportunity, they will exercise their right to do just that.

It can be hard not to take insulting words personally. When we feel someone is unjustly maligning us or otherwise injuring our image or reputation we naturally want to defend ourselves, but sometimes the best way to deal with negative feedback is not to respond to it in kind. What that means is that you sometimes have to smile and say “thank you for sharing your thoughts” to someone who obviously was not trying to be helpful in sharing their thoughts. More often than not responding to intentionally malicious comments ends with you doing more harm to your reputation than the negative feedback that spurred your response to begin with.

How you represent yourself when being taunted is important. You don’t want to engage in a nasty war of words with people who leave insulting comments on your blog or who rate or review your product or service poorly just because they have that power. If you are trying to project a professional image perhaps the best thing you can do is simply delete obviously inflammatory comments, assuming the comments are left on your own site. Sometimes negative comments about you, your product, your service, your business are left in places where you have no control over deleting them. In that case you have to make a decision about whether or not it’s worth it to address the comments on your own site or sign up on the site where the comments are left and publicly defend your reputation. It is usually a better option simply to ignore the comments, especially if they are unfounded. If your product or service is good that will do more to establish your reputation than the rude comment of an angry individual who did not like the product or was not satisfied with the service. Most people are reasonable enough to be satisfied with a 99% favorable rating and not be too concerned with that 1% negative feedback.

Some people don’t like to delete negative comments because they are afraid they’ll be accused of only approving comments that make them look good, but this is not a question of deleting constructive feedback. It’s the destructive feedback that’s in question. Of course, what’s destructive will vary from person to person and depend largely on how sensitive your ego is or is not. You need to have some willingness to accept constructive feedback even if it sounds like criticism. After all, your readers or customers deserve to have their thoughts considered and respected. They add value to your life every bit as much as you add to theirs and you should want to know and be willing to hear if they think you have made a mistake or otherwise fallen short; but at the end of the day, you still have the power, on your own website at least, to delete comments that are outright mean and pointless and that do not add value to anyone’s life, but rather only give a dark feeling of satisfaction to the person who posted the comment.

Not everyone is going to have something good to say. Not everyone is going to love you, love your blog, love your product, love your service. You have to expect negative feedback and accept it as par for the course. You shouldn’t take it personally and launch a counter-attack.

3. Click the media link to load the Media Library page

4. Click the “Add new” button at the top of the media library page

5. Click “Browse” (if using the Browser uploader) or Select Files (if using the Flash uploader) to locate the image file on your computer

15. Set, if needed, your options for

  • Background Image top/bottom align

  • Background Attachment

16. Depending on your background color you might need to modify these options to suit

Don’t have the CSS Styling Tool. You can follow the same steps to upload your file, but you will need to manually configure includes/styles/styles-body.php to use your background image.

If you have purchased a copy of the CSS Styling Tool for Producer and you plan to upgrade to Producer version 2.1.9, you should be aware that versions of the CSS Styling Tool earlier than 2.1.9 will not work with Producer 2.1.9. You were sent an email with Producer 2.1.9 and the compatible styling tool. In case you did not receive it, you can read the contents below. If you did not receive the styling tool please use the contact form to request it and include your purchase email or transaction ID.

Content of email you should have received:

Producer has been updated to version 2.1.9. Previous versions of the CSS Styling Tool will not work with version 2.1.9 of Producer. The 2.1.9 version of the CSS styling tool will not work with versions of Producer that are below 2.1.9. What this means: if you upgrade to Producer 2.1.9 you must also upgrade to the styling tool for version 2.1.9. If you do not upgrade to version 2.1.9 of Producer you should not use the styling tool for version 2.1.9.

Version 2.1.9 additions and fixes
http://www.antisocialmediallc.com/2010/04/producer-version-2-1-9-released/

Important notices

When you first upgrade to version 2.1.9 your current standard options and CSS Styling tool options will seem to have been reset. To restore them, go to the options page for both standard options and css styling tool options and hit update.

Please be advised that while the styling tool has been configured to import your current settings to the new format it is possible for the import to fail. If you’ve done extensive work with the tool that you cannot afford to have to do over, it is strongly advised that you backup your WP database and your currently installed version of Producer before you attempt the upgrade. This way if the styling tool fails to import your current settings you can re back to the version you were using before the upgrade attempt.

I must stress again that if you have made extensive use of the CSS Styling Tool to modify the appearance of your site, backup your database and file before you update to version 2.1.9. Your settings should get transferred to the new format but there is every possibility they might not import at all or might get only partially imported.

What is the Get news via RSS link?

How is the Get new via RSS link connected to the Setup Feedburner RSS for Sidebar? settings available on the Producer standard options theme options page?

If you fill out the option fields for feedburner found under Setup Feedburner RSS for Sidebar? on the standard Producer theme options page, the Get news via RSS link will link users to your feedburner subscribe page intead of your WordPress RSS subscribe page.

If you do not fill out the feedburner options the Get new via RSS link points to your WordPress rss feed URL and users can subscribe to your RSS feed using whatever feed reader options their browser provides.

Producer can be set to magazine mode or blog mode. This just means you can have a standard blog look with standard sidebars and standard content area or you can have a “magazine” style where you have thumbnails and excerpts from multiple featured categories on the home page.

The drop down that accompanies this option has two values: on, off. “On” means you are running in magazine mode. “Off” means you are running in standard blog mode.

IMPORTANT FOR ANYONE USING CSS STYLING TOOL

An email was sent out to all who have purchased the CSS Styling Tool, however it seems some did not receive it. Please use the contact form to request the CSS Styling Tool for Producer 2.1.9 before you upgrade to 2.1.9. The current CSS Styling Tool is not compatible with Producer 2.1.9.

Version 2.1.9 additions and fixes (Note the version number in the file will read 2.1.9.0)

Download | Demo

CSS style code no longer displayed in header of page

Producer options now stored in single database row. In previous versions each option was saved in an individual row. This used up a great deal of space in the database. Version 2.1.9 stores all standard Producer options in one row and all css styling tool options in another so you will now only have 2 rows in the database being used by Producer to store options.

Repeating post bug fixed – in magazine mode with widgets turned on the featured post for certain categories was being repeated in the sub-lists.

Logo alignment issue fixed – for those of you who are using an image that spans the 990 pixels width of the header, there was a conditional omission in previous versions that resulted in the image being pushed 10 pixels to the right so that there was white space at the beginning and an overlap at the end and the image right and left margins did not align with the row below it. This problem should now be fixed in version 2.1.9

Browser.php no longer used to track user browser. This was causing a PHP version compatibility problem. Note that version2.1.9 is still being cross-browser checked so please report any browser specific issues you might encounter, particular with Internet Explorer 6 and 7

Sidebar search bug fixed. In previous versions the sidebar search widget was failing to properly display the search button. It was also  not fitting in the widget space. This has been fixed.
