Still working on learning to design graphics in Illustrator using the tracing technique.  Will not presume to write a tutorial on how to do this. Just not skilled enough to be telling anyone how to trace with Illustrator. You can find countless tutorials on the web. The one used as a basic guide for tracing the Chanel sunglasses used for this object can be found here

We grabbed an image of a pair of Chanel sunglasses from Google images and followed Steps 1 and 2 to set it up for tracing. After that it was pretty much trial and error.

Tip: You can try using Effect->Stylize->Rounded Corners to soften the edges of your shapes; but keep in mind that this will not work for all scenarios. It works best for shapes that do not have 4 distinct corners. Feel free to share if you know a more effective way of softening edges in Illustrator.

In the process of creating a WordPress theme for sports blogs. The theme is being created from a PSD file recently obtained via SitePoint.com. The theme will be a 2 column theme with a featured content slideshow. The finished design might not exactly match the sample shown.

Disclaimer: The PSD design shown in this post was created by a third-party designer who has sold us the rights to the design. If you have reason to believe this design infringes on your or someone else’s copyright please contact us about the matter. Feel free to download our lipstick icons if you like them. They are by no means the sexiest lipstick icons ever designed. We designed them in Illustrator after learning some tracing techniques. Yes, we know there’s lots of room for improvement.

There are only three lipstick icons in this pack. You can make more in Photoshop by playing with the Hue & Saturation tool in colorize mode. If you want to create more lipstick colors use the lasso tool to create a selection around the lipstick itself then go to Image->Adjustments->Hue/Saturation, check the colorize checkbox and create your colors.

When you first turn on magazine mode with the Producer Theme, your home page will be blank. That is because you do not have any featured categories setup by default. You will need to go to your producer theme options and setup your featured categories to fill the blank space.

You should try the theme in static mode before you experiment with widgets mode. If you have fewer than 3 categories on your site, it is best to use Producer in standard non-magazine mode. You need at least 3 categories to make the best use of Producer in magazine mode, and your categories should each have more than one post. If you do not have three or more categories or your categories don’t each have more than 1 post you should use Producer in standard non-magazine mode until you build up some content.

When you setup your featured categories, you need to select the number of posts you want to show for each category. You can show a different number for each category. You also need to set a character limit for the excerpt.

Your featured category excerpts are taken from the post excerpt. If you prefer to control the excerpt text be sure to add your preferred excerpt text when you make your post.

Hello

First of all, congratulations for your work. It’s very helpful.
I´d like to translate the wp theme in french.

Could you give me a generic language file so I can make the translation ?

Thank you

Christophe

hello everybody,

is there a way to change the image chosen to form a thumbnail for a post?

i’ve noticed that newsmagazine theme always chooses the last image of a post to make the preview thumbnail in the magazine frontpage.

i’d need it to use the first…

how/where should i operate?

thanks

Producer is a highly flexible free WordPress theme that can be used to build a standard blog or a magazine style blog. Producer provides an attractive default theme which you can use as is. For even greater flexibility use the premium CSS styling tool  to change background color, add background images, change font colors, sizes, styles and completely change your site’s design without editing a single line of code. With the CSS styling tool you can create an unlimited number of unique designs based on the Producer mainframe. (This site uses the Producer theme. The CSS Styling tool was used to modify the design)

Run Producer in static mode to use the out of the box design or switch to widgets to drag and drop featured categories where you want them and mix them up with your other widgets to achieve the look you want for your site.

Run with 1 sidebar activated, both sidebars activated or no sidebars activated.

Place sidebars side by side to left of content, side by side to right of content or separated on left and right of content.

Control which sidebars appear on 404, index, search results single post pages and regular pages.

Magazine mode has 2 layout options.

Header section items ( logo/slogan row, horizontal menu row, search bar row, hidden leaderboard row) can be rearranged.

10 featured category slots available. Use only what you need. Sticky post, feed-burner and many more options.

The CSS styling tool is the only thing not included in the free package. As with any other theme, you can still edit the styles manually to achieve the look you want. The below is an example of a design done with the CSS Styling tool using Producer in non-magazine mode.

Example of a desgin done with the CSS Styling Tool

The CSS Styling tool has been created to make the task of changing the look of your theme as easy as entering the colors, sizes, image file URLs and other styling elements into a text box and pressing the submit button.   The CSS styling tool is pretty extensive as it aims to give you control over as many styling elements as possible. This means you can create completely new designs without having to change any code, which will make updating theme versions less of a hassle. It’s a lifesaver for anyone who doesn’t know how to edit PHP code and even for those who do but prefer a simpler, faster way of getting the job done.

Producer is in the first phase of it’s life. If you are using the theme and would like to help improve it please report any problems you are experiencing with it.

There was a problem in version 1.6.5 released earlier today. Posts without images were displaying a broken image because of a small error in a thumbnail related function. If you are having that problem you need to replace all the featuredX.php files in /includes with the copies from the version 1.6.6 package. Sorry about the 2 version updates in 1 day.

screenshotThere is a new update available for News Magazine Theme 640. Version 1.6.5 improves the thumbnail functions to allow for images to be re-used from the media library. Previously if you inserted an image from your media library and that image was not in the gallery for the specific post the image would not show up. In version 1.6.5 this has been sorted out so now, if you already have images uploaded that you want to re-use you can just insert them from your media library and they should be displayed.

Working on fixing it so you can also use remote images (images linked to from sources outside of your server). This ability is not currently present so if you have images in your post that have a remote/external URL those images will not show up on the homepage.

Version 1.6.5 also adds a new option to the admin for those of you using News Magazine Theme 640 in blog mode. If you want to include the author and date byline under the title for each post shown on the index page you can activate this option from the admin. It is made optional as some people want the byline and others do not.

Please report any problems you are having with version 1.6.5 of News Magazine Theme 640 and thank you for using the theme.

If you are using WP Amazon Instastore and getting fewer products imported than you would like, the best way to handle imports in order to maximize the number of products you get back is to use more specific keywords when importing one keyword at a time or multiple keywords specific to the general term for which you want to import product data.

An example of  the most ideal way to import arts & photography related books.

1. Compile a list of general terms (below list compiled from amazon Arts & Photography sub categories)

  • Architecture
  • Design & Decorative Arts
  • Drawing
  • Fashion
  • History & Criticism
  • Instructional & How-To
  • Museums & Collections
  • Painting
  • Photography
  • Reference
  • Schools, Periods & Styles
  • Sculpture

2. Create a list of keywords for each general term (might help to look in the related section on amazon.com. Include some form of the general term in all keyword phrases)

Architecture

  • Architects, A-Z
  • Architectural Standards
  • Architecture Building Types & Styles
  • Architecture Criticism
  • Drawing & Modelling architecture
  • Historic Preservation architecture
  • History & Periods architecture
  • Interior Design architecture
  • International architecture
  • Landscape architecture
  • Architecture Materials
  • Project Planning & Management architecture
  • Architecture Reference
  • Architecture Study & Teaching
  • Architecture Urban & Land Use Planning

Design & Decorative Arts

  • Decorative Arts
  • Furniture Design
  • Graphic Design
  • Textile & Costume design

3. Build keyword string from keywords

Architecture keyword string

[ Architects A-Z,Architectural Standards,Architecture Building Types & Styles,Architecture Criticism,Drawing & Modelling architecture,Historic Preservation architecture,History & Periods architecture,Interior Design architecture,International architecture,Landscape architecture,Architecture Materials,Project Planning & Management architecture,Architecture Reference,Architecture Study & Teaching,Architecture Urban & Land Use Planning ]

Design & Decorative Arts keyword string

[ Decorative Arts,Furniture Design,Graphic Design,Textile & Costume design ]

The idea is to build a keyword string for each general term, so you should have 12 sets of keyword strings based on the list of general terms above. Depending on your keywords, a list such as the one above should be good for 500 – 1000 product imports

You could do your imports using the keyword strings or you could do the imports on a keyword by keyword basis. The string import is obviously faster, but the keyword by keyword import tends to return a few more results than the string import.
