Tried everything and still can’t get thumbnails to show up?
If you’ve tried all the suggested methods for getting thumbnails to show up on your site using News Magazine Theme 640 and the thumbnails still don’t show, try downloading version 1.0.5.8 of the plugin. There’s a fix applied to cropper.php that could possibly be the fix you need to get the thumbnails showing up on your site.

I initially had problems with thumbnails, here’s what fixed it for me.
When I downloaded the theme on a Mac, it was automatically un-compressed into a folder. So I had to re-compress the files and upload. ** My problem is that I was re-compressing the entire folder, when I should have just been re-compressing the contents of the folder. Once I did that my issues got sorted out. Hope that helps.
