News Magazine Theme 640 has been updated to version 1.5.3. The update fixes a few issues and prepares the theme for translation. Among the issues addressed, there was a problem with the narrow sidebar. It was picking up the widgets from the sidebar used on the index page. It is supposed to be picking up the widgets placed in the widget box titled “SidebarNarrow”.
Some people were having problems with the images not displaying. The function that prepares the image for display has been modified to make it work on a wider range of servers.
In some cases images were overlapping the post details box on when viewing single posts. This has been fixed.
The preparation of the theme for translation is still a work in progress. If anyone needs the default POT file that’s currently available contact me via the contact form and I will email it to you.

Hi,
I love your Magazine Theme!! all of them!!
I’m working on a Spanish website, is there a way to translate some of the title you have in the Side Bar?
First I tried to use this Magazine theme 640, but I changed to Producer because I want my categories placed in the header bar, but I like the 640 better. Can I have the categories in the header instead of pages in the 640 theme?
Thanks!!
J.
Hi Joan, at this time you can’t switch between pages and categories in News Magazine theme but I will be sure to add this option for the next update of the theme.
Thanks admin!! I guess that mean I will use producer instead.
What about the translation? Can you tell me where can I go to translate words like: Log in, Written by, Article…. etc?
Thanks again.
J.
Joan, will get you the translation file shortly.
My previous question here went “poof”?
Any help on changing the background color would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
MikeC, the main background class is the body class in style.css. The main container classes are
#wrapper { width:1030px; margin:0 auto; padding:0; background:#ffffff; }
#maincontainer { width:990px; margin:0 auto; }
#contentcontainer { clear:both; overflow:hidden; padding-top:5px; margin:0 auto; width:990px; }
Only wrapper has a background setting.
There will be individual settings for the different tiers so you will need to look for and adjust the background colors set in:
#tier1
#tier1 .tier1main
#tier1 .tier1main .tier1mainnarrow
#tier1 .tier1main .tier1mainwide
#tier2
#tier2 .tier2ad
#tier2 .tier2b
#tier2 .tier2bexpanded
#tier2 .tier2c
#tier2 .tier2cbexpanded
Can’t swear those are the only classes you’ll have to change. You will need to view the source code to find the class name for any additional sections you need to modify then modify the class in style.css.
Hello Admin,
Question on images to be used with Posts. I am struggling with this. What is the recommended size of an image? Problem is when I try to insert an image in the post (size 229×300), the thumbnail does not show up properly, in the post it shows up properly.
If you have an earlier post/article on how images have to be used then appreciate if you could point me to it.
Mike
Mike, for best results use images in your posts that are at least 300 pixels wide by 175 pixels high. This way all the featured category images should crop at the specified dimensions without any issues. This assumes you are using News Magazine Theme 640.
Admin,
Found that you have released version 1.7. That is excellent, as I still do not have things live yet, I could go with 1.7. I do not want to lose any customizations. Is there process to upgrade or just copy the new files.
Best
Mike
Mike, if you have done customizations it is not recommended that you copy over your files with the new files. Apply your changes to the new files first.
Hi!
I tried your Magazine 640 template and it is great. Thanks!
I have a question though, I am trying to use this template on a blog I have written in Spanish and don’t know how can I get the theme to show in Spanish in the front end.
Do you by any chance have a Spanish language file?
If not, I could create it if you told me how and share it with anyone else who wanted it.
Thanks for making this great template, Guillermo.
