News Magazine Theme 640 v 1.5.3

screenshotNews Magazine Theme 640 has been updated to version 1.5.3. The update fixes a few issues and prepares the theme for translation. Among the issues addressed, there was a problem with the narrow sidebar. It was picking up the widgets from the sidebar used on the index page. It is supposed to be picking up the widgets placed in the widget box titled “SidebarNarrow”.

Some people were having problems with the images not displaying. The function that prepares the image for display has been modified to make it work on a wider range of servers.

In some cases images were overlapping the post details box on when viewing single posts. This has been fixed.

The preparation of the theme for translation is still a work in progress. If anyone needs the default POT file that’s currently available contact me via the contact form and I will email it to you.

    hi admin!
thaks for this great theme: the one I was looking for
    but

    under the date
    there are nothing!
    no post
    ni widget
    its grey and only grey!
    Can you help?
    Thanks

  2. admin says:

Hi medzo, will be more than happy to see what I can do to help, but please use the most up-to-date version of the theme before we begin any troubleshooting. You can download the most recent version (version 1.5.9) from the downloads page. It looks like you might have downloaded version 1.5.4 from wordpress.org. Still trying to get wordpress to update to most recent version

  3. medzo says:

    Hi!
Thanks for your quick reaction. i’ve uploaded and installed now the last version but
unfortunatly the problem remains the same…

    Could U help?

  4. admin says:

  6. admin says:

Belly, please accept my apology for the delay in answering your question. Have you tried editing the calendar related class in style.css?

Help! I upgraded today and my navigation bar melted down. It partially shows up in IE but all messed up in Chrome. Can anyone help me with the css to fix this?

I can’t get the leaderboard 720×90 to display if I have the magazine layout turned off. Is there something I can do to get it to display? Thanks!

Like everybody else, I LOVE THIS THEME! But I have a lot of question. Add a forum! BBPress integrates with WordPress pretty easily; you might want to consider it: http://bbpress.org/.

  10. admin says:

Gator, there is already a forum. You can locate it by following the “Forum” link in the menu. Let me know if you can’t see the link.

  11. George says:

I am looking for the place where I can add the images to show. Right now the place for all the images tells me “no image”. I have looked up and down but I am not finding the place to load the images I want to use.
I thought maybe it would take the image from the post, but that didn’t happen either.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    George

  12. admin says:

George, you need to upload the images on a post by post basis and insert into your post. The rest should happen automatically.

  13. Amit says:

I have fixed it by my self.

    Thanks

I just want to know .. how can I change Back Ground Color and Font Color of “Page” titles. (Such as – HOME, ABOUT, SERVICES etc)

  14. admin says:

Amit, you can make all style changes for this theme in styles.css. If I am understanding correctly what you are trying to change, they you need to refer to the classes #nmag-navbar and #nmag and their sub classes

  15. TJ says:

First, thanks for a great theme, I love it. I do have one problem, though. I have created several pages (not posts) and they show up in the bar across the top. That’s cool for most, but there’s 2 that I don’t want to have included up there. How can I un-include them?

  16. admin says:

TJ, you will need to edit header.php at around line 50. Look for wp_list_pages(‘title_li=&sort_column=menu_order’); and modify to include the IDs of the pages you want to exclude:
    wp_list_pages(‘title_li=&sort_column=menu_order&exclude=1,2′);
In the above example you’ll see exclude=1,2,3 you will need to change 1,2 to the IDs of the pages you want to exclude.
This will have to be redone with each theme update so you might try to see if you can find a plugin that allows you to filer wp_list_pages

  17. Amit says:

    Dear Admin,

    Thanks for your all support.
Here I need more more suggestions from you.

How will display “post” images on home page and “featured post”.

I am unable to find any option on “News Magazine Theme 640 Options”.

    Please advise me.

Looking forward for your earliest reply.

    Thanks,
    Amit

  18. mike says:

    Hello,

Hoping you can help me with these questions. Appreciate your effort in getting all this done.

    1. What is the suggested size for a logo to replace the header section.
    2. If I do not use the logo and instead just go with the default of the blog title being displayed, is there a way to change the color of that text being displayed.
    3. Lastly, the picture/text combination you have in the demo at the leaderboard section is just amazing. Is there a way I can do something similar of combining picture with text for the leaderboard. I noticed that the leaderboard space in the settings page takes html, is that what we should be doing to get the picture/text combo?

    Thanks again.

  19. admin says:

    Mike

    1. As long as you keep it at or under 990 pixels in width you should be fine.
    2. You will have to edit style.css to change the color of the text.
    3. The picture/text combo is a graphic that was designed in PhotoShop

  20. admin says:

Amit, I am not sure if I am understanding your question fully. If it is what I think you’re asking you don’t have to do anything different from what you normally do when you post. As long as your post has an image and the image is not being pulled from an offsite location or a location that WordPress has no data about your images should show up

The day and date are about 12 hours ahead of my time zone how can i fix? This is just on the newspaper heading i’m est(new york)It’s all set up properly in the settings.
also i was posting in size 11 font and all was well then i made my last page post on my training page,11 also, but when i went to view site everything came up in 9 and thats two small to read plus i did nothing out of the ordinary. How can i fix that also. If needed i’l get you access to find the problem i just need it fixed those two problems.I’m kind of afraid to add any more content just in case i have re-du it all. when i go back to edit page/posts it all shows up size 11 in the edit window, nothing has changed there. The last page i edited is actually the smaller of the three i believe. Other then that i really like this theme.
    Thanks

  22. admin says:

John, will hopefully have the date issue fixed shortly

  23. mike says:

Thank you for your feedback on the logo. Quick follow up, any suggestions on the height of the logo?

  24. justin says:

How do i exclude a category from the recent topics sidebar. I tried the exclude tag in the query but it broke the code.

  25. TSZ says:

Really having trouble adjusting the header position….

my image is stuck to the left for some reason.

please email with fix. Thanks for your help

  26. admin says:

TSZ, your comment is posted about News Magazine Theme 640 but it looks like you’re using Producer. It also looks like your image is aligned center already.

  27. admin says:

Mike, were you asking about the logo or the leaderboard space? I believe my previous answer was made thinking you were asking about the leaderboard space. If indeed it is the leaderboard space the measurment is 728 by 90.

  28. admin says:

Justin in recenttopics.php look for query_posts(’showposts=’.$numlatesttopics); and add your exclude categories. If that is what you did initially perhaps you had an error that you didn’t notice. Try

    query_posts(’showposts=’.$numlatesttopics.’&cat=-1,-2,-3′);

In the example the -1,-2,-3 should be replaced by the actual IDs of the categories you want to exclude.

  29. Mike says:

Admin, It actually was for both. Leaderboard and logo. So the leaderboard image has to be 728×90. The logo width is 990, what would you suggest for the height?

  30. admin says:

Mike, you can really make it any height desired as the rest of the page will adjust accordingly, but I imagine 100 pixels would be ideal.

  31. Ellen says:

I love your theme. I just hope I can do it justice. I’m new to this and have been trying to figure out how to have the pictures in the posts appear on the front page. I thought they would pick up automatically. Maybe I am not familiar with the terminology or something in the options area. Please provide a step-by-step for me. Thanks.

  32. remy says:

    Hi !
I have changed in the Stylesheet the wrapper to black and in the Home page is looking good but in the other pages is not looking so good as is the black is taking over the whole page. Can someone tell how can i have the same look as in the main page also in the post pages?

  33. admin says:

Ellen, the images should pick up automatically. It looks like you have the alternate cropper file set to 1 and the alternate cropper function set to 2. Try setting the alternate cropper function to 1 and see if that makes any difference.

  34. admin says:

remy, where can I see an example of what you’re talking about?

  35. Ellen says:

Hi admin,I have tried various combinations of the the 1 & 2 functions and files, however, I am still unable to get the photos to show. Is there another way this can be done? Are you able to assist?

  36. admin says:

Ellen, please download functions.zip and unzip and replace functions.php with the copy in functions.zip and let me know if it solves the problem.
    http://www.antisocialmediallc.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/functions.zip

  37. Ellen says:

Thanks very much for your assistance. The pictures look great and the site is functioning perfectly. Also, thanks for fixing the sidebar on that one page for me. The page looks good now and I appreciate you going the extra mile.

  38. Ellen says:

Dumb question from a WP newbie here. How do I get my own banner ad into the leaderboard space?

  39. Joan says:

    Hi,
I love your Magazine Theme!! all of them!!
I’m working on a Spanish website, is there a way to translate some of the title you have in the Side Bar?
First I tried to use this Magazine theme 640, but I changed to Producer because I want my categories placed in the header bar, but I like the 640 better. Can I have the categories in the header instead of pages in the 640 theme?
    Thanks!!
    J.

  40. admin says:

Hi Joan, at this time you can’t switch between pages and categories in News Magazine theme but I will be sure to add this option for the next update of the theme.

  41. Joan says:

Thanks admin!! I guess that mean I will use producer instead.
What about the translation? Can you tell me where can I go to translate words like: Log in, Written by, Article…. etc?

    Thanks again.
    J.

  42. admin says:

Joan, will get you the translation file shortly.

  43. MikeC says:

My previous question here went “poof”?

Any help on changing the background color would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  44. admin says:

MikeC, the main background class is the body class in style.css. The main container classes are

    #wrapper { width:1030px; margin:0 auto; padding:0; background:#ffffff; }

    #maincontainer { width:990px; margin:0 auto; }

    #contentcontainer { clear:both; overflow:hidden; padding-top:5px; margin:0 auto; width:990px; }

Only wrapper has a background setting.

There will be individual settings for the different tiers so you will need to look for and adjust the background colors set in:

    #tier1
    #tier1 .tier1main
    #tier1 .tier1main .tier1mainnarrow
    #tier1 .tier1main .tier1mainwide
    #tier2
    #tier2 .tier2ad
    #tier2 .tier2b
    #tier2 .tier2bexpanded
    #tier2 .tier2c
    #tier2 .tier2cbexpanded

Can’t swear those are the only classes you’ll have to change. You will need to view the source code to find the class name for any additional sections you need to modify then modify the class in style.css.
