If you are using News Magazine Theme 640 you need to keep in mind that the “IndexPageSidebar” widget space is specficially for the Index page. Widgets you put there will show up in the leftmost column of the second row of content on the index page. The “regular” sidebars are “Sidebar Narrow” and “Sidebar Other”. Sidebar Narrow is meant to hold the content for the movable sidebar which is narrowest of the two regular sidebars. Sidebar Other is the second sidebar that’s a little wider than the narrow sidebar.
To avoid layout issues please do not put all your sidebar elements into one block and only put elements that will fit into the allotted sidebar space. The Index Page Sidebar for example is set to hide anything that overflows so you can’t put more there than it can display. The other sidebars will adjust to your content vertically, but if you put something into the narrow sidebar that is too wide for a 120 pixels wide space the element will stretch beyond the limits of the space and spoil your layout. Use the wider sidebar for elements that need more than 120 pixels of horizontal space. Use “Sidebar Other” for elements that are up to 230 pixels wide.

Hi, just discovered this great theme. I installed it on my blog but quickly took it off. I would like to use this theme but there is 1 disturbing thing that has scared me off. In the pages displayed there is a page that states Add Post. By clicking on this page option you are taken inside my dashboard which means that basically anybody could go in and change everything on my blog or worse delete it. Please Help! How do I get rid of this page option.
Yvonne, that option is only shown to the administrator. If you log out you’ll see that it’s not there anymore. It will only show itself to the administrator when the administrator is logged in. If you want to remove it anyway edit it out of header.php.
Hi there,
so I grabbed myself a fresh wordpress 2.8.4 copy,
installed your theme on my local server and tested it.
First up: looks cool and exiting… but there are some issues you should look after.
1) cannot set images (using “img” tags) in the tiers (1 and 2).
whatever I do, hardcode the path or whatever… no image shows up.
Text on the other hand works. Hmmm, and your demo code image does
show up. So what’s going on there?
2) your “about” section, that you are defining as “part of the magazine
layout” does not show up there. Instead, it shows up when the magazine
layout is inactive. You should correct the text on the options page
accordingly to keep it logically.
3) demo code produces 10 validation errors in case you didn’t know.
Would be cool if you can give me some info on how to put my user defined images in the 2 tiers…
Tnx!!!
e-sushi, the “about” section is not part of the magazine layout. The “about” section does in fact only show when the magazine layout is inactive as you’ve stated. This is the way it should be as it is only there to explain to you about the magazine layout to let you know that the current layout you are viewing by default is not the magazine layout and to explain to you how to turn on the magazine layout. Thus, once you turn on the magazine layout, the about message is going to disappear as it should and will only reappear if you turn off the magazine layout again and decide to use the standard layout. In that case, that about message will remain visible until you turn it off from the options page. Hope that clears up that a bit.
Validation Errors
Thanks for letting me know about the number of validation errors.
Images
Hard to help with the images issue without taking a look at your site. I’ve checked out a number of sites that have installed the theme and the images are showing just fine so I’d guess this isn’t a problem across the board but might only be affecting some people which would make it harder to resolve without actually checking the server environment where someone is having a problem with images showing up or not.
This was helpful, thanks. Now my sidebars are as they should be.
One problem I’m having though; how to fix the order of links at the top for your pages? I want them to show up alphabetically, not in the order the pages were created.
I know it’s in the coding, just unsure where? Can you point me in the right direction?
Hi Tam, you can manipulate the order by editing wp_list_pages in header.php.
Hi, the theme are great, it has all I ever need for my site. But it has problems with Internet Explorer 6.0. The Sidebar Other is falling below the post and the Featured Category #2 displays nothing.
I have check sites using this theme, including Yvonne’s site, viewing them using IE 6.0 and the problems exist.
Is there any way to fix this?
It works perfectly in Firefox 3.0 and Google Chrome 3.0
Hi Witho, I will see about fixing the IE issue as soon as possible. Will post when an update with the fix is available.
How can I tell which sidebar is the upper left hand corner on the front page, as well as upper right hand corner on the front page?
Thanks!
Also, how can you change certain widgets to be on the left and right?
Is it possible to put different content into the sidebars for each category page?
This is the best free theme i have never seen before , and its really hatsoff of to the theme developer and big thanks to u Sir ….
And the problem is Internet Explorer 6.0. The Sidebar is falling below the post and the Featured Category #2 displays nothing. and i have tried to rectify but unable to solve the issue, So please can u give a solution for this, because 50 % percent of netigens uses IE 6, waiting for you response Sir
dheeraj, I am working on fixing the IE issues. Will notify when fix is ready
Great theme, I love it’s simplicity yet richness. I have one problem I cannot figure out. If you look at my site (http://beeginning.com/) I attempted to add a Twitter widget code below the Featured article 5 by pasting the code into the home.php file. It went in fine but the column will not expand to show all of the script. When I add more articles to that section it will push down even further. I have attempted to add a height:auto; or height:100%; in the style.css file under div class=”imgstyle” and it still will not expand. Any suggestions?
Thank you for your help and this great theme.
Randal, it looks like you might be using the version downloaded from wordpress.org? Correct me if I am wrong. If indeed you are please download the version of the theme from this site as it is more current and includes an extra row for content which you can activate from the theme options page. That extra row includes a sidebar which might work better for you. You can add your code in a text widget instead of having to edit the theme file. Please keep in mind the extra row does not show by default. You have to turn it on. You can choose to position in under the first row or under the second row. It does mean selecting a 6th featured category though so it might not be useful if you don’t have a 6th category to showcase.
That sounds great, I did download it from wordpress and I will update it from this site and let you know how it goes. I have plenty more categories to add so no issues there. Thank you very much for the quick response and great support.
Works like a charm wih the new install from this site. I do have a few issues that I am working through but should be able to figure them out. If not I may be asking on here. Thank you.
Hi,
Just installed the Magazine 640 theme on my website. It’s working great. I’ll probably upgrade to Antisnews when I’ve worked out the content details.
I had a few problems with the thumbnail images not showing up, but in my case, this is what I was doing wrong:
Thumbnail issues:
When I downloaded the theme on a Mac, the theme was automatically uncompressed into a folder. So I had to re-compress and upload to WordPress. *** My problem is that I was re-compressing the entire folder. What I should have been doing was re-compressing the contents of the folder and then uploading to WordPress. Once I did this correctly, it got sorted out. Hope that helps.
Whoops forgot site is http://raintreehotelsandresorts.com/
Terrific theme. Thank you. Just carried out a clean install using WordPress 2.8.6 and your version 1.6.3. All going well but I have two questions and hope you can help.
1. I see no way to change the widgets that appear in the left hand side bar on the index page. I must be missing something obvious!
2. When I place a widget into Indexpagesidebar, nothing displays on the index page.
I’d welcome your comments.
Chris B, you should see the widget content in the leftmost div of the second row of content.
HI My wife and I love your theme. Thank you for making it open source. I just have a few questions about the sidebar. As you can see when you visit the blog, we are not using the magazine layout so I am not sure why I can’t get more than two widgets to appear in the sidebar other, if I were to add a third at the top the recent comment dissapears is there a way to change that in code or other… something sililar happens when I add a widget to to sidebar narrow.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Manuel, you should be able to add any number of widgets desired. Will have to check on this to see if there is a bug. In the meantime try to hide the custom sidebar elements from the theme options and see if that resolves it. That will mean that the custom latest posts and custom latest comments will have to be replaced by the wp standard widgets for these two.
Hello! Is there any way I can shift the other sidebar more to the left? I’ve tried everything and can’t do it.
Thank You!!
Tan, sorry, only the narrow sidebar is movable from within the theme options
hello, i’d like to remove latest topics and recent comment from sidebar narrow… i have put other widget but those two are in the theme and are not removing when i use other widget
You are able to do this from the theme options.
